“Christian Focus!”

 â€˜Political Activism’-- the practice of dogmatically participating in the political process to continually and actively motivate societal change.

Christians should refocus their attention on the following:

1^st—Our Commission is the Gospel! (Matthew 28: 19-20)! When other priorities and pursuits crowd this out, the message AND the mission get confused!  Only the gospel of Jesus Christ can create hope that is sustainable and filled with a TRUE transparency we can believe in!

 

2^nd --Our Confidence is in God!  Only HE is sovereign over and in the affairs of this world;--(Job 1:12; 2:6; Luke 5:21; 22:31)– over Satan and sin; (2 Chronicles 20:6; Romans 13:2) –over ALL governments and military  powers; (Psalm 107:29; Nahum 1:3-6)-over nature and natural disasters; (John 9:3; 11:4; Revelation 21:4)-over sickness and disease; (Acts 13:48; Romans 9:17-18) Over every human being!

 

3^rd—Our Charge is to Submit!  (Matthew 22:21; Romans 12:1-2) Our allegiance and submission to the Lord should motivate us to be exemplary citizens! We are called to submit!

 

4^th –Our Commitment is to PRAY! (1 Timothy 2:1-2) —Paul prayed for the very king who would eventually authorize his execution!----AND he instructed Timothy to do the same! Believers pray for those in authority over them (vs. 2)!  Christians should pray for the salvation of their leaders!

 

5^th--Our Citizenship Is in Heaven! (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16) – Our identity, priorities, and mission are not defined by our citizenship on earth, but in heaven, where our Savior awaits us! (Hebrews 12:23)–This is where our fellow countrymen actually dwell!  (Luke 10:20; Revelation 13:8) –This is where our names are recorded! (Matthew 5;12; 6:20; 1 Peter 1:4) –This is where our treasure is stored!

While we as Christians have been given a ‘voice’ in the political process and it is our responsibility to exercise that right---Christians should never garner a reputation for trouble-making or demeaning those who are in authority! Though we are called to BOLDLY denounce unrighteousness and immorality, we must also give honor and respect to those whom God has placed over us! Scripturally, this BIBLICAL pattern applies to every Christian living at ANY time in ANY place!
