Owl City and Lecrae speaking my language!

Written by Youth Minister Kevin
"I am not my own, for I have been made new. Please don't let me go. I desperately need You." Owl City lyrics from the song, "Meteor Shower"

"I am not my own, for I have been made new. Please don't let me go. I desperately need You." Owl City lyrics from the song, "Meteor Shower"

I've had this song stuck on repeat in my head for a while now. "I am not my own." A lot of times we want to be in control, we want to call the shots in life. "It's my body, it's my life, I will do what I want with it!" This goes against Scripture, because we don't belong to ourselves. "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body" 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. We could not pay for our sins, none of us can, but God sent His Son Jesus take on the sin of the world. All of it! He died in our place, for our sins. The ultimate price was paid, and we owe our lives (yes all of it) to Him.

"For I have been made new." Can you find one person in Scripture that had an encounter with the Lord Jesus and left the same way? No, you can't do it. They always leave changed! "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:17. When you meet Jesus, you are changed, period! Does your life look different since you met the Savior? Can other people see that change? In the words of Lecrae, "Can they tell you value Jesus by the way you rep His name?" Lecrae lyrics from the song, "Go Hard"

"Please don't let me go, I desperately need You." I think you can view these lyrics very well together. God wants us to want Him. He wants us to trust Him for all things, even our basic needs. "Give us today our daily bread." Matthew 6:11. When we aren't putting our trust in God, where are we putting it? In ourselves. (Wonder how far that will get us.) "And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19. "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." Proverbs 18:10. We NEED God. Today, tomorrow, and always. And He will be there for us, forever and always.

Cling to the Rock, (Psalm 18:2)
