TMSG. Jeremiah 6:16-18-- God’s Message yet again: “Go stand at the crossroads and look around. Ask for directions to the old road, The tried and true road. Then take it. Discover the right route for your souls. But they said, ‘Nothing doing. We aren’t going that way.’ I even provided watchmen for them to warn them, to set off the alarm. But the people said, ‘It’s a false alarm. It doesn’t concern us.’ And so I’m calling in the nations as witnesses: ‘Watch, witnesses, what happens to them!’ And, ‘Pay attention, earth! Don’t miss these bulletins.’ I’m visiting catastrophe on this people, the end result of the games they’ve been playing with me. They’ve ignored everything I’ve said, had nothing but contempt for my teaching----

Jeremiah, like so many Old Testament prophets, ministered to Israel during a time when NO ONE paid much attention to what he had to say! I’ve come to realize this was because what he spoke from God was not what the people wanted to hear! WE are not so different than those ancient Israelites, thousands of years ago! In the verses above, Jeremiah mentions the ‘Watchmen’ God placed over the people of Israel. Every wall that surrounded and protected Jerusalem was assigned Watchmen who kept a wary eye out for any enemy that might approach to do the city and its inhabitants harm. If the Watchmen sounded the ‘alarm’ – (usually a shofar---rams horn blast), and the people paid no mind to the warning---their blood was on their own heads! BUT, if the Watchmen were negligent in their duties, if they didn’t properly warn the people, then any shed blood that resulted rested upon the head and hands of those watchmen that did not do the job they were given! If you read the entire sixth chapter of Jeremiah, you would find Americans to be a people not unlike those Jeremiah was prophesying to. The American ‘Watchmen on the Walls,’ are the modern day prophets known as ‘Pastors,’ ‘Evangelists,’ and ALL who claim Jesus as Savior and Lord! Just as Jeremiah’s prophesy and warning encouraged the people to ‘go back to the old ways,’ we should ALL be sounding the warning for America to return to the biblical principles of Christianity found in His Word, centered on Jesus Christ!

Today, there is a part of America made up of folks inside churches all over the U.S. who have a discerning palette for the truth as long as it does not pertain to THEIR hard hearts, spiritual struggles or sins they are exceptionally disposed to commit! As long as the Pastor is preaching over their heads to OTHERS--- or, on ‘social issues’ of the day, many will give a hardy ‘amen’! But if the Spirit convicts them through the Watchman’s words of THEIR OWN words, deeds, thoughts or struggles they shut the warning out! Maybe even worse, they blame the Watchmen for the conviction and run THEM off! They may just leave and look for Watchmen who won’t sound such alarms---but will make them feel safe and say how things may LOOK bad right now, but because they once prayed a prayer, they have nothing to fear! They are lulled into a numbing, complacent, and false sense of security---and they love this feeling! There exists a larger part of our society that consists of people who are likely to say they believe in a god—or ‘higher intelligence’ that orchestrates things here on earth. Many also claim no belief what-so-ever! When you die, that is it! Lots are ‘hostile’ to the very name of Jesus and would like nothing better than to ‘shut the mouths’ and ‘tie the hands and feet’ of the Watchmen who are pointing the Way to the tried and true Road!

Only by sounding the alarm that comes from biblical truth in God’s Word can the worldly ‘veil’ that the Christian’s enemy Satan has placed over their eyes be lifted! Pastors and Evangelists AND ALL CHRISTIANS should be in the Bible, daily gleaning as much truth and understanding as possible to point the multitudes toward the Way!

Is God calling all the other nations to watch as He is poised to, “--visit catastrophe on us, which is always the end result of the games WE are playing with Him?” Who among us can say that most of US have not ignored everything He has said and had nothing but contempt for His teachings?
